Obituary: Phylis R. Johnson, 93, of Branford

The pillar of her family whose door was always open, she enjoyed travel, gardening, get-togethers with the 80s Ladies, then, the Nifty 90s.

Phylis R. Johnson, 93, of Branford passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, after a brief illness. Phylis was born October 8, 1928 in New Haven, CT. The daughter of the late Herbert and Marian Lamb Rowley. She was the wife of the late Kenneth G. Johnson Sr. for 46 years. She worked at SNET for 25 years until retiring.

Phylis enjoyed traveling, which included trips to Europe, family cruises, and a RV trip along the East Coast. She was an avid gardener who loved having fresh cut flowers in her home. She enjoyed her daily afternoon tea while watching the birds at the feeder. Phylis looked forward to get togethers with a group of lifelong friends who, later in life, referred to themselves as the “80’s Ladies” which then turned into the “Nifty 90’s”.

Phylis was the pillar of her family whose door was always open. One of her greatest qualities was her ability to relate to all generations. Her sharp mind allowed her to stay up to date on current events and technology. Phylis was an amazing woman who will be greatly missed.

Family was the focus of her life. She is survived by her children Cynthia (Joseph) Fitteron of West Haven, Kenneth G. Johnson Jr., Douglas P. (Jennifer) Johnson and Christine J. Daley, all of Branford; She was Gram to her grandchildren, Shannon (Christopher) Menihan, Megan (Jeffrey) Padden, Timothy and Lauren Johnson. She was Gigi to her great- grandson, Jaxson Edward Padden who always brought a smile to her face. She was predeceased by her sons-in-law, Edward O’Donnell and Terrence Daley, her brothers Donald and Robert Rowley and her sister, Marian Condie.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service Thursday morning at 11:00 in Tabor Cemetery, Branford. There are no calling hours.
