Obituary: Richard Batick, 85, of Branford

Richard Batick of Branford passed away Saturday August 26 at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of the late Loretta Coppola Batick. He was the father of Jeffrey Batick (Rhonda Ranney) of Wallingford and Stephanie Baklik (John) of Branford. He was the brother of Jean Langner of North Haven and Patricia Batick of New Haven. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Jasmine Baklik and John Baklik Jr. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert Batick and Walter Smith, and his sister Betty Curtis. Richard was born in New Haven on October 2, 1937, a son of Joseph and Margaret Batick. Richard had a full career with SS Kresge/Kmart Corporation as a Retail manager for 38 years until his retirement.

Richard was a kind and gentle soul who experienced joy by generously giving to others. He was also an artist, and an avid gardener. His first love being ceramics, he and Loretta ran a ceramic studio in Branford, After Loretta's passing, he threw his passion for art into other medias, and in philanthropic actions. Richard volunteered at numerous organizations, including the Monastery of the Glorious Cross in Branford-tending the gardens. He was active in volunteering at the Branford Senior center, and all of his accomplishments were recognized in 2016 when he received the Remarkable Senior Award from Branford Senior center. He loved playing cards with friends and family, and was a cherished person whom enriched many lives, even those who never had the privilege of meeting him.
