Obituary: Richard K. Goodrich, 91, of Branford

During World War II he served as a B17 Tail Gunner, flying missions out of Italy with the Fifteenth Air Force over Germany.

Richard K. Goodrich of Branford died peacefully in his home on December 31, 2016. He was born in East Hartford, CT on November 22, 1925, a son of William Ashley and Arline Barnard Goodrich.

He was predeceased by his brothers Wilbur Ashley Goodrich and Jared Barnard Goodrich, and his companion, Frank B. Olin. During World War II he served as a B17 Tail Gunner, flying missions out of Italy with the Fifteenth Air Force over Germany and occupied Europe.

After the war he graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, class of 1950. He also earned degrees from New York University and Hofstra College. He did graduate study at Cuenavaca Language School in Mexico.He retired in 1980 from White Plains, N.Y. High School, where he was the English Department Chair for much of his career. He has been a Branford resident ever since.

He was involved in many local activities, most especially recording for the blind and handicapped for years, and also volunteered at CT Hospice in Branford. Funeral services and burial will be private. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford is in care of arrangements.
