Obituary: Rosemary Dempsey, 91, of Branford

Rosemary was a dedicated volunteer at St. Mary's Church & School, the senior center, the Branford Women's Club, and with CT Hospice.

Rosemary Dempsey, 91, of Branford passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. She was the wife of the late James (Bud) Dempsey and mother of James Dempsey Jr. (wife Joan), Mark Dempsey (wife Jeanne) and Holly Lajoie (husband Daniel). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Sean, Kaitlyn, Megan, Jaime, Michael, Danielle and Dempsey. Rosemary was born in New Haven on May 14, 1930, a daughter of Phillip and Anna Lauro.

Rosemary became a resident of Branford in 1955 and was an active volunteer in town throughout her life while raising her three children. At various times she volunteered at St. Mary’s Church and School, the Senior Center, Branford Women’s Club Events, Connecticut Hospice and a variety of other events that generally supported Branford related causes.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, and was a constant presence at all of their school and sporting events. Rosemary enjoyed having a house full of friends, playing bridge, traveling with her husband and friends and attending events in her beloved Branford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 28, 2022 at 10:00 at Saint Mary’s Church of St. John Bosco Parish in Branford. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Friends may call on Monday from 8:30-9:30 A.M. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis TN 38105 or the Branford Food Pantry at 30 Harrison Avenue, #2, Branford CT 06405.
