Obituary: Scott C. Jenkin, 54, of Branford

He was a respected football and track coach and paraprofessional at Branford High School.

Scott C. Jenkin, of East Haven, formerly of Stony Creek, died Sunday July 3, 2016 at his home. Scott was born May 21, 1962 in New Haven, son of the late Bob and Betsy Brainerd Jenkin.

He was the brother of Deb (Ed) Copperthite, Pamela (Rusty) Dudley, and Tim (Sue) Jenkin; the uncle of Kelly (Nick) Ranalli, Ed (Angela) Copperthite, Lewis Dudley. Tim (Susan), Laura, and Matt Jenkin; and great-uncle of Kathryn and Edward Copperthite; nephew of John (Donna) Jenkin and Sondra (Richard) Dering and the late Sally B. (Robert) Page.

Scott also leaves behind many cousins and great friends. Scott was a 1980 graduate of Branford High School and attended Southern Connecticut State University.

He was a respected football and track coach and paraprofessional at Branford High School. He also was a longtime Shoreline Youth Football coach where he led his teams to championships in 1992 and 1995.

At the high school he was freshman head coach for many years and was the varsity offensive line coach when they won the state championship in 2005 and the offensive line blocked East Lyme to allow the Hornets 240 yards rushing and get the win.

In Track and Field he was named New Haven Register co-coach of the year in 2005 and 2008. He compiled a record of 214-82 in 26 years as a coach and won state and league titles.

Coach Jenks was a coach, mentor and friend to countless young adults who he educated on and off the field in Branford. He took exceptional pride in having coached his niece and nephew in Branford. Scott was a member of the Branford Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2010.

Friends may call Thursday July 14, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a memorial service Friday July 15th at 1:00 PM at the Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Island Road, Stony Creek. Burial will be private.
