Obituary: Sigvard O. Hallgren, 77, of Branford

He was a daily communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford, where he also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist.

Sigvard O. Hallgren of Branford walked into the arms of his Lord on May 4, 2016 after courageously living with cancer for four years. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Duane Zercie Hallgren.

He was born in Orebro, Sweden, June 6, 1938, son of the late John and Karin Bergquist Hallgren. He graduated from the University of Hartford as a Mechanical Engineer and from the Rensselear Graduate Center, Hartford with a MS in Management.

Mr. Hallgren was a Vice-President of Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman, Inc. where he worked from 1974 until retiring in 2001. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Connecticut, an active and charter member of several construction equipment maintenance associations for which he served as Treasurer, Chairman or President for many years. He was also active in the Southington YMCA and his local church parish in Southington.

He was a daily communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford, where he also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist. He was a Third Degree member of Eldorado Council #10, Knights of Columbus at St. Mary.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four wonderful sons, Timothy and his wife Bernadette of Berlin, NH, Thomas and his wife Mariko of North Tustin, CA, David and his wife Melissa of Southington, and Anders and his wife Allyson of Westwood, NJ; his eight treasured grandsons, Noah (Jillian), Anders, Jacob, Jonathan, Tyler, Kai, Bryce and Eli; and his great-granddaughter, Gabriella. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Reverend David F. Zercie of Holy Apostles Seminary, Cromwell, CT. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara T. Hallgren.

There are no calling hours and burial will be private.
