Obituary: ​Thomas A. Melillo, Sr., 70, of Branford

After the war, he worked as a molder for the former M. I. F. Co., the Guilford Brass Foundry and for I. Spencer and Sons.

Thomas A. Melillo, Sr., of Branford, died Saturday October 1, 2016 at the VAMC in West Haven. Mr. Melillo was born May 3, 1946 in New Haven, son of the late Genevieve Hurley Melillo and John Melillo. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

After the war, he worked as a molder for the former M. I. F. Co., the Guilford Brass Foundry and for I. Spencer and Sons for many years until retiring, and he was a true Jack-of-all-Trades. He loved fishing and clamming and being on the water in Stony Creek.

He also loved watching Clint Eastwood movies, working on cars, gardening, cooking and woodcutting. Tom was an avid fan of the New York Islanders hockey team. He is survived by his beloved children, Tracie Melillo of Branford, and Thomas A. Melillo, Jr. (Jessica) of Guilford; his grandchildren, Jordan and Brandon Johnson, Ava Melillo, Thomas A. Melillo, III, and Kamryn Melillo; his siblings, Janet Sittnick, Judy Abood, Ralph (Rita) Melillo, Lee Melillo, and Phillip (Anne) Melillo, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Tammy-Lynn Melillo and a sister Phyllis Taylor and brothers, John, Michael, and David Melillo.

His family would like to thank the entire staff at the VAMC for their excellent support and care shown to Tom during his illness.His funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, Friday morning at 9:15 for a funeral service in the Church of Christ Congregational, 192 Thimble Island Road, Stony Creek, at 10:00. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call Thursday from 5 – 7 PM.
