Obituary: Vincent A. Thomas, 95, of Branford

A WWII Navy veteran and Iwo Jima survivor, he was a 60-year member, historian, and Past Commander of American Legion Post 83 in Branford.

Vincent A. Thomas of Branford passed away on June 3, 2022 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ann Callan Thomas. Vinnie was born in New Haven August 9, 1926 son of the late Albert and Sadie Raimundo Thomas.

Vinnie was a World War II veteran with the U. S. Navy. He was an Iwo Jima survivor and was an active member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association. He was the editor of the Iwo Jima Journal. Vinnie was a 60-year member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 83 in Branford where he served as the historian for the past 35 years. He had worked as the operations manager for TNT Pilot in Wallingford for many years until retiring.

Besides Ann, Vinnie is survived by his step-son Donald Twarowski of Branford, step-daughter, Debra Sepulveda (Jose) of New Haven, son Vincent Morico of West Haven, daughter Catherine Thomas Longyear of New Haven, niece Sadie Bergeron (Anthony) of Branford, several nieces, nephews, grandsons Jason Carasone of New Haven, Michael Carasone (Michele) of West Haven, Christopher Sepulveda of Beverly Hills, CA, granddaughter Stacey Wheeler of Las Vegas, great-grandson Matthew Carasone of West Haven, great-granddaughter Kailey Wheeler of Jamestown, CA. He was predeceased by his brother Albert Thomas, Jr. and his sister Theresa Tomasi D’Adamo and his stepdaughter Sandra Twarowski.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Friday morning at 12 noon at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford and may visit prior to the service from 10:30 – 12:00 PM.
