Lara Morton is a Theater Artist with an impressive background in Dramatic Arts, as well as an amazing presenter and a gifted teacher! Lara has been working professionally in Applied Theatre (Drama in Educational, Community and Social Contexts) for over twenty years, teaching and directing theatre to students of all ages and levels of ability, interest, comfort levels and experience. Passionate about the power of theatre to transform lives, she has a keen ability to identify and enhance students’ natural gifts while also strengthening their self-image, problem-solving skills and relationship to the world around them. Ms. Morton has previously served as Artistic Director/Playwright-in-Residence for the Yale-based Open End Theatre, Program Director for Young Audiences of CT (Arts for Learning), and Assistant Director of the Mental Health Association Players (Binghamton, NY). As a playwright, she has been honored with several professional staged readings in Manhattan (Epic Theatre Ensemble, 2011) and New Jersey (Speranza Theatre, 2013), and her one-woman touring educational piece about CT State Heroine Prudence Crandall has been gracing Connecticut stages during Black History Month for the past 17 years. She currently serves as Drama Instructor to over 150 elementary and middle school students at Davis Street Arts Magnet School in New Haven, and is familiar to local audiences for her multiple turns in plays, musicals and opera events with Madison Lyric Stage (madisonlyricstage.org), as well as performances through her musical cabaret group 'Starving Artists Tackle Broadway (SATB)'.
