Orange Dunkin' Donuts Restaurants Launch Special Donut to Support ASD Gym for World Autism Awareness Day
Restaurants Donate $1 for Each ASD Fitness Center Donut Sold on April 1 & 2 to Support Gym Memberships for Families in Need
ORANGE, CT (March 29, 2016) — To support individuals with autism , the local Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owner in Orange, Connecticut is hosting a fundraiser to support the ASD Fitness Center, a local fitness organization serving individuals on the autism spectrum beginning April 1 and ending on World Autism Day, Saturday, April 2. Guests are invited to purchase a special “ASD Fitness Center” for the price of $1 at the two Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Orange located at 297 Boston Post Road and 377 Boston Post Road. Dunkin’ Donuts local franchisee, the D’Andrea Group, will donate the purchase price of each of these branded donuts sold on April 1 and 2 to provide scholarships for families in need to use the ASD Fitness Center, also located in Orange.
The mission of the ASD Fitness Center is to provide a safe, comfortable and structured environment for empowering individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder to improve their level of physical fitness. Friday, April 1 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM, an employee from ASD Fitness Center will be at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 297 Boston Post Road, along with franchisee Nicole Ball of the D’Andrea Group, to provide information for anyone interested in learning more about the gym. “ASD Fitness Center” donuts will be available for purchase on April 1 and 2 at both Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Orange, while supplies last.
As a longtime Special Olympics coach and a past teacher of children on the autism spectrum, Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owner Nicole Ball is eager to invite the community to support the ASD Fitness Center. “The Fitness Center not only provides important opportunities for children with autism to exercise and explore sensory-based fitness, it also provides a community for families with children with special needs, which is invaluable to them,” said Ball. “We hope the community will come to our two Dunkin’ Donuts in Orange and support this organization on World Autism Awareness Day.”

Gia Polio is the Vice Chairman of the Bethany Leapley ASD Scholarship Fund, which provides the scholarships for the ASD Fitness Center and will be accepting the donation from the D’Andrea Group. Polio said the gym serves about 80 children on the autism spectrum and also serves children with other special needs. “It’s more than a gym,” commented Polio, “It’s a community for those with special needs.”
The Bethany Leapley ASD Scholarship Fund currently has 15 children on scholarship for the ASD Fitness Center, but there are currently 10 children on the waitlist for funding support.

“Purchasing just one ‘ASD Fitness Center’ donut could make all the difference for a family who can benefit so much from this gym,” stated Ball. “And of course it comes with the added benefit of getting to eat a delicious donut from Dunkin’ Donuts!”
Located at 307 Racebrook Road in Orange, ASD Fitness Center serves families in the greater New Haven area from ages 5 to young adult. The 5,000-square-foot fitness center is staffed by special education teachers with fitness certifications. Trainers provide one to one training with children as well as group classes. Scholarships provide children with access to a full gum membership, which includes two or three one-on-one sessions and a group class every week.
Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees the D’Andrea Group owns 13 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the greater New Haven area.
