Overnight New Haven Crash Kills 25-Year-Old Branford Man: Police

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 25-year-old Branford man, a passenger in a car involved in a 2-vehicle crash in New Haven overnight, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway, Max Peters, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Just before 1 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to the intersection of Trumbull and Orange streets and found two vehicles which crashed in the intersection; a gray Volvo, being operated by a 25-year-old Milford man, and a white Ford E450 box truck, being operated by a 30-year-old Naugatuck man, Shumway said.

American Medical Response transported both operators to Yale New Haven Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, he said. Peters, the passenger in the Volvo, died at the scene, Shumway said.

The New Haven Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is leading the investigation.

A teacher and counselor at The Grove School in Madison, according to his profile on Backstage, Peters, who attended Dean College in Massachusetts, was an actor with theater and TV credits. Peters' first name is Malachi, but he went by Max. He stared in The Boys in the Band at the Mass Music & Arts Society Black Box Theater where his performance was well-reviewed.
