Pandemic Cancels 33rd Annual Branford Sports Hall of Fame Dinner

"Like so many other activities, COVID-19 has sadly caused us to cancel this year's dinner," sports hall of fame chair Bill O'Brien said.

BRANFORD, CT — Another sign of the times cancellation: the 33rd annual Branford Sports Hall of Fame dinner slated for November has been canceled.

Popular since it began in 1988, the dinner has become another victim of the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the years, 296 residents have been honored and the dinner has been enjoyed by between 300 and 400 attendees, Branford Sports Hall of Fame chairman Bill O'Brien said in a news release.

"Like so many other town activities, COVID-19 has sadly caused us to cancel this year's dinner," O'Brien said.

"We are planning to be back in 2021 and will honor more outstanding individuals that have brought honor and distinction to Branford over the years," O'Brien said.

The Branford Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1988 to recognize individuals who have brought Honor and Distinction to the Town of Branford, Connecticut and participated in sports as a player, coach, organizer, sponsor, journalist or fan.

Honorees must have attained a measure of success in athletics as a player, coach, supporter or person who has had a significant impact on sports and has been a leader in his profession or avocation. Consideration is given to candidate’s for their public service for the benefit of their community, their country and their fellow man and to individuals that have utilized their talents to attain success in business, private life or public service.
