Party At The Library: Celebrate Blackstone's 125th Birthday Saturday

BRANFORD, CT — Start the day Saturday on the lawn of the Blackstone Library as it celebrates its 125th year and end the day with Independence Day fireworks at Branford Point.

Help the historic library commemorate 125 years of "making a difference" in Branford life as it has engaged the community, helped to expand minds, and enriched lives.

Set for Saturday, rain or shine, the birthday bash will include special events and activities for the entire family.

"Help us make this a memorable day by joining us in celebrating the role the library plays in facilitating community connections, nurturing curious minds, and supporting everyone’s quest to learn, succeed and thrive," a flyer announcing the celebration reads.

In the event of rain, activities will move into the library’s auditorium.

Here's what's happening:

• 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Family Storytime with Master Storyteller Bill Harley, sponsored by The Friends of the Blackstone Library
• 12 p.m. to 12:30 pm Ceremony: Time Capsule Sealing, Guest Speakers, Announcements

• 12:30 to 3 p.m. A picnic*, live music from the "Shoreline's party band," COVERGIRL, and Lawn Games, sponsored by The Friends of the Blackstone Library.

*The complimentary picnic lunch from Hornet’s Nest includes a sandwich, chips, and a drink. And, on a first-come, first-served basis, the library will hand out a commemorative Blackstone 125th picnic blanket.
