Police Warn About Another Phone Scam
Scammers don't give up. Police do not 'judge anyone that this has happened to because we know the scammers and manipulative and persistent.'
BRANFORD, CT —These scams are ceaseless. On this one, police caution that they will never call folks and ask for money or gift cards. Some may balk saying it's obvious this is a scam. Sometimes, it's not so obvious. And trusting people fall prey.
Indeed, Branford Police say, "We don’t judge anyone that this has happened to because we know the scammers and manipulative and persistent, but hopefully we can bring awareness with this post."

Police will never "demand gift cards or cash from the public."
"If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be an officer from this department asking for money we encourage you to call back at our main phone line. You can speak to a dispatcher to confirm the officer is working and looking to speak with you. We encourage you to call any agency the person is claiming to be from.Members of our community have fallen victim to this in the past. Typically, it involves the scammer pretending to be a family member that was arrested and needs gift cards to get bonded out."
