How well do you know the people around you? Those at the grocery store, the gas station and in line at the bank? I decided to find out who they were. I chose the local coffee shop to get to know the people around "me."
I asked people four simple questions. Who are you, where are you from, what do you do and one interesting fact about yourself? Before I started, I felt it might not work; I figured people would feel I was nosey or a bit creepy. I was pleasantly surprised. Only two people said they didn't want to participate.
As I took the photos and asked the questions, I found people were willing to tell me about themselves. I was able to connect with them in a way that in any other situation I would never had said a word to them. Some I knew, but most were complete strangers that were just willing to help me, interested in what I was doing. I guess one thing I got from this little project and one thing I can pass along is simply... say hello. Next time you sit near someone at a restaurant or coffee shop say hello. Ask four simple questions. It can't hurt. At least I don't think it can.
