Resident Witnesses Car Break-Ins, Calls Cops, 2 Teens Charged

Three teens were seen trying to break into cars and then took off, but patrol officers and K-9 Arrow caught 2 of them hiding behind a home.

BRANFORD, CT — Police say that it was an "alert" resident who saw three teens breaking into cars Friday night. Two of the three were caught by officers and police K-9 Arrow after running and hiding behind an Elm Street garage, law enforcement said on Facebook.

According to Branford police, a resident on Prospect Street called police to report three people "breaking into cars in the area." Another person called police to say they saw the "group running westbound through residential yards."

Patrol officers saw two "juveniles" running behind an Elm Street house and with "the assistance of K-9 Arrow" both were found and taken into custody.

Police said one had an empty handgun holster, but no weapon and noted that the "juvenile denied being in possession of a weapon."

Both were charged with third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and interfering with an officer.

"Branford Police would like to thank the alert citizens who observed these individuals breaking into cars and a second caller who reported them running through yards," police posted on Facebook adding, "Please remember to avoid confronting any individual involved in this criminal activity, as the best course of action is to promptly call police."
