RETRO ROCK CAFE BRINGS YOU ‘BACK TO THE 80’s’

Free event brings all the best of the 1980’s to a new generation.

Retro Rock Cafe (formerly Classic Rock Coffee) to host an all ages, ‘Back To The 80’s’ theme event on Friday May 20th running from 6pm to 11pm. Owner, Howard Engelhard has created a family friendly space that brings generations together for more than coffee. The event is the first in a monthly series of Decades Dance Parties which feature themed live music, cosplay, competitions, activities, and surprise guests.

Headlining the event is the UK’s Duran:The Tribute frontman, Phillip McPhillips. Recently Phillip crossed the pond relocating to East Haven, Connecticut. Having performed alongside 80’s greats as The Human League, Heaven 17, Bad Manners, and Bananarama, Phillips 80’s tribute show Le Bon brings an energy that is not to be missed.

“Who doesn’t love the 80’s?! The trendy and tacky fashion, birth of MTV, video games, advancing technology and Reagan-Era decadence. There are countless Generation X’ers and Millennials like me that live for introducing our favorite 80’s movies, cartoons, music, and toys to the children in our lives. Nostalgia for all that is BAD and RAD about the 80’s is alive and well and that’s what this event is all about.” quotes Event Coordinator Alise Meeker, owner of Alley Cat Entertainment.

In addition to the free live show. Attendees can participate in Atari competitions on retro gaming consoles, children’s activities, dance battles, and of course costume and mile high hair contests. Cosplayer Ryan Jennings, a trivia regular at the cafe, is eager to greet guests at the event. Don’t be intimidated by his meticulously crafted Proton Pack. You’ll be welcome to take photos alongside his replica ECTO-1 which will be on site. But beware, you may get slimed!

Head Barista Jennifer Engelhard will be creating special libations for the event. “We have reached out to local Cosplayers and Impersonators who are welcome to attend and promote their personal businesses. I can’t wait to see who comes through the door!” says Jennifer. “If you can’t find your jelly bracelets, FRANKIE SAYS RELAX, we will be giving them away along with other goodies.”

Located in East Haven's Historic Old Mill, Retro Rock Cafe is the Shoreline's home for all things Rock n Roll & coffee.

Our ‘Bad to the Bean’ Baristas brew traditional drinks and unique flavored items. Fear not, the cafe also offers a full line of treats for non-coffee drinkers. Breakfast and lunch are served all day! Rustic charm greets those who enjoy the fireplace, common rooms, or stream side patio. The sounds of familiar tunes play, at a tasteful level. Retro game systems and board games offer friendly competition. Weekly events offer free fun for all ages including Trivia, Karaoke, Open Mic Night, Game Night, and Acoustic Brunch. Live music from local bands, paint nights, comedy shows, and fundraisers ensure there’s always something for everyone. In the warmer months enjoy our riverside patio.
