RTM Approves Branford Budget Which Includes a Slight Tax Increase

A town-school budget agreement was finally reached at the RTM annual budget meeting, albeit after a difficult process.

BRANFORD, CT - Last week’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM) led to the approval of a $105.89 million town budget for 2016-17, the Branford Eagle reported.

The final budget is the result of a $292,306 reduction of the original $106 million combined school and municipal budget approved by the Board of Finance, according to the Branford Eagle. The reductions resulted from some members’ concerns over the state budget crisis and the impact the original budget could have on the town’s mill rate.

The process brought about 21 budget cuts, including the loss of $5,000 for the annual fireworks celebration and an additional reduction of $42,865 in regards to upgrades and a server replacement, the Branford Eagle reported.
