Struggling Financially? Branford Microfund Has No-Interest Loans

The non-profit group provides interest-free loans of up to $3,000 for Branford residents who are struggling to pay bills or make rent.

BRANFORD, CT —The Branford Microfund is a non-profit organization run by Branford volunteers and community leaders to "help our neighbors during difficult times."

The program is for Branford residents only.

"With the anticipated ending of eviction moratoriums happening soon, many in our community are struggling with additional financial burdens," a news release from the group reads. It's goal is to provide interest free loans of up to $3,000 for repayment over a maximum of 30 months.

The Branford Microfund is "residents giving each other a helping hand." Its partners include Branford Counseling and Community Services, Women & Family Life Center, Willoughby Wallace Library, Blackstone Library, Branford Food Pantry, Branford Dining Room, and the First Congregational Church of Branford.

"We work together with the philosophy to 'pay it forward.' When a loan recipient repays a loan, the money becomes available to help another person in need," it's explained.

Quoted was a resident who was struggling: "We had nowhere to turn as our checking account was overdrawn by a fraudster and wiped out all Social Security living funds for the month. We would like to help in any way we can to support the Microfund once we our back on our feet.”

The program is for anyone who is experiencing financial difficulties and needs a helping hand.

An application is available on its website, which can be done online or printed. Branford Microfund "promises a three-day turnaround to determine eligibility.
