Swim Team Clothing Drive

A Fund Raiser Held by the Branford Swim Team.

On this past Saturday The Branford High School Swim Team at Walsh Intermediate School to help support the team's activities for the years events. Postponed from a January snow storm, people came out to support their home team and to give to the less fortunate. Organizer Keren Gell told me they receive $1 per pound of clothing donated. "It's a good way to help others while also cleaning out your closets."

The clothing was given to a textile recycling company called Ameriserve USA LLC based out of Bristol. From there the items go to a grading and sorting factory where they are divided into 350 different categories. Such as winter clothes (Afganastan), t-shirts (Africa) vintage (boutiques), as well as surrounding towns. Bob Jaques, owner of Ameriserve, said his company is a small family run business.

In the short time I was there, I saw several people approach the truck with bags and bags of unneeded clothing. A dual cause. Great job Branford! Here are some photos I took, I hope the next one will be even better. Enjoy.
