Golf Tournament to Raise Money for School Renovation

Branford, CT (April 23, 2014) — Branford’s Mary R. Tisko school is about to receive some needed renovations, thanks in part, to fundraising efforts by the school’s PTA. The groundbreaking ceremony for the school’s courtyard renovation project is just weeks away, and the PTA is still hard and work to raise money to pay for the project. Last year’s first “Tee it up for Tisko” golf tournament was an incredible success, raising $15,000. This year, the Tisko PTA hopes to raise even more with its second annual “Tee it up for Tisko” golf event, scheduled for May 1st at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club.

The current Tisko courtyard is an underutilized, unsafe area, with incredible educational potential. Seeing this as an opportunity to increase the educational experience for all Tisko students, the school PTA is raising money to helpfund the project. The renovation is estimated to cost$100,000 and is scheduled to begin in mid to late May. The newly renovated courtyard will have:  a performance amphitheater, an outdoor classroom, a sensory garden, vegetable gardens, a quiet reading area, a low tech weather station, and a student-inspired mural.

“We had such success with our tournament last year,” said PTA President, Lisa Andriole. “We couldn’t wait to do it again. Through this courtyard renovation, students willbenefit from hands-on learning, a greater sense of community, and a connection to personal wellness and the outdoor world.”

“These Tisko parents are really amazing,” said Mary R Tisko Principal, James O’Connor. “They aren’t waiting for the state or the district to provide the necessary money for the courtyard upgrades—they have taken the fundraising into their own hands and are doing a spectacular job of it.”

The second annual “Tee it up for Tisko” golf tournament will take place on May 1st at the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club. The tournament will consist of two nine-hole “best-ball” scrambles. Foursomes are still available atthe price of $175 per player. The cost includes:  golf, lunch, dinner, a Tisko branded golf umbrella. Tickets for the“adults only” dinner (no golf) are available for $50. There will also be a silent auction of themed baskets created by each Tisko class, and raffle with prizes provided by local businesses and Tisko classrooms.

Proceeds from our tournament will directly benefit the courtyard renovation project. The Second Annual “Tee it up for Tisko” golf tournament is sponsored by Campus Customs and Connecticut In-Home Assistance.
