Trouble In River City!

Walsh Intermediate School proudly presents "The Music Man."

This past Tuesday I had the honor and privilege to be present for the dress rehearsal of  Meredith Willson's play .  The one word that keeps coming to mind to describe my evening is wonderful!

The play, directed by WIS sixth grade language arts teacher, Randi Sawyer, was filled with humour, romance, and song and dance. Star characters, con-man, Professor Harold Hill (Dan Frye) and the prudish librarian Marian Paroo (Sasha Shpitalnik) were joined by a cast of young actors that displayed endless talent and wit. Some of the standout songs that can be heard are "Seventy-six Trombones,"  "Gary Indiana,"  and the beautiful "Till There Was You." Each scene and song is accompanied by a wonderful pit band conducted by WIS band director Kathy Banca. Vocal director Keith Traver and choreographer Meghan Heath round off the essential teachings that make this play fantastic.

So many people are involved in the production of a presentation of this magnitude and quality that I felt slightly overwhelmed by the number of names and positions that I hope my photographs will make up for anybody that is not mentioned. My apologies. All of the participants from costume creators to the technical lighting and sound deserve praise for their dedication put forth.

There will be two performances for the public one on April 1, at 7:30 p.m. and the other April 2, at 3 p.m., both at WIS theater. I highly recommend taking the time and support our schools by seeing this wonderful rendition of The Music Man. I promise you won't be disappointed.

While I was there I took 254 photographs and then had the difficult task of narrowing them down to just 35. I hope you enjoy them and look forward to any comments you may have. Thank you - John.
