'Troubled' Branford Train Station Project Has a New Completion Date: Report
The project has been marred by setbacks but state officials explain the major reasons behind the delays.

BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Train Station has been 'troubled,' according to state lawmakers, which is what led to a forum being held in town this week with state Department of Transportation officials in an effort to get some answers.
DOT officials gave local leaders and residents a new completion date for the upgrades, the Branford Seven reports. That new date is Sept. 30.
Once a second platform is added and other upgrades are included access will improve significantly, the Branford Seven reports.

DOT officials say delays were partly a result of waiting for Amtrak approval to gain access to the area, the Seven reports. Other reasons were also cited, the Branford Seven reports. DOT officials did say costs have increased from $10 million to $11 million.
Senator Ted Kennedy, Jr. (D-Branford), Representative Lonnie Reed, and Branford First Selectman James Cosgrove called for the meeting.

Improvements to Branford Train station were scheduled to have been completed last year, but the project has been plagued by setbacks, officials said in announcing the meeting. Kennedy, Reed and Cosgrove have received numerous calls and emails from town residents about the status of construction at the train station, the officials said in a news release.
