The UConn women took on a talented opponent in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In the beginning of the game there were several back and forth moments between fouls being called and shots being made. Jewell Lloyd, of Notre Dame especially started the game going five for five and looking lights out. Moriah Jefferson was beaten for fouls several times, ultimately leading to her benching.
The difference in this game lay on a mostly unproven commodity, named Kia Stokes. Stokes was often one of the first players off the bench in the Estero Florida. She is talented but erratic might be the best word to describe her. She can explode for fifteen-twenty points and rebounds in one game, and have two points in five fouls in another. She had driven the coaching staff to exasperation mainly because they see the good she can accomplish while watching the inconsistency that plagues her game.
That night, she showed the “good” Kiah. She played lengthy minutes, and had approximately fifteen rebounds, which represented a career high for her. Mogan Tuck also shown highly in the box score, setting her own personal best in points.
