UPDATE: Ongoing EEE Threat Shutters Parks, Fields At Dusk

Parks and Rec director Alex Palluzzi, Jr., consulted with health officials and rescinded Tuesday's lift of the evening outdoor activity ban.

BRANFORD, CT — We're not out of the woods yet, folks.

In an emailed statement, Branford Parks and Recreation Director Alex Palluzzi, Jr., announced that despite an earlier lift of the ban, the threat of Eastern equine encephalitis still exists and the town is taking it seriously.

“After consultation with the East District Shore Health Department this morning, the EEE BAN IS STILL IN EFFECT for all evening activities and all youth sports groups until further notice. We are sorry for the Inconvenience, but safety remains our top priority."

Reports of infected mosquitoes remain and so the dawn to dusk ban isn't going anywhere for now. Parks and fields will stay closed beginning at 5:30 p.m. for all evening activities and youth groups.

The ban was lifted on Tuesday, albeit it turns out, temporarily.
