Utility Asking For 'Wise Water Use' After 'Unprecedented' Demand

The Regional Water Authority says discolored water is caused by very high demand as a result of dry, hot weather and many working at home.

BRANFORD, CT — An "unprecedented" demand for water fueled by prolonged hot and dry weather conditions and many more people working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has the Regional Water Authority asking users to "use water wisely," stopping short of any order.

The RWA serves many New Haven County towns including Branford and East Haven.

The utility says that the "higher-than-normal system demand has resulted in some customers experiencing temporarily disclosed water as well.

The RWA asks that customers with discolored water call 203-562-4020, "So we can get your address and respond as necessary in your neighborhood."
