What's the History of Lenny's Indian Head Inn?
After receiving some corrections on an earlier account of Lenny's in this column, it's time to get a better look at the history of the tavern.
Back in May, reader Peggy Flynn contacted me with a full history of , as she recalled it, having spent many summers in Indian Neck growing up. The Lenny's website offers a short history of the restaurant, starting with Thomas J. and Katherine Fitzgerald opening the establishment in 1939. Peggy, who was a close friend of Katherine's, gave me an inside scoop on some things that locals used to know, including an old nickname of the bar.
This week, I'm hoping to get the inside scoop from the current management of Lenny's, but in the meantime, what do you know about the history of this local favorite? According to the site, during the 1960s and 1970s, teens were often forbidden from going to this now family-friendly restaurant. If you were a rebellious teen during that era, do you have stories about Lenny's you'd like to tell?
