2 Killed In Double-Shooting In Bridgeport: Police

The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning on Carleton Avenue, according to Bridgeport police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Two people were killed early Tuesday in a shooting that Bridgeport police said suggests "a mutual assault between the two."

The identities of the deceased 21-year-old Ansonia man, and the 30-year-old Bridgeport man, have not been released.

"The Bridgeport Police Department’s thoughts and prayers go out to both families who were impacted by this tragic event," Capt. Kevin Gilleran said in a statement.

According to police, the shooting occurred at about 2:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Carleton Avenue. The department was alerted to shots being fired in the area by a ShotSpotter activation. ShotSpotter is a gunshot notification system.

"Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 21-year-old Ansonia man lying face down in the street in front of 30 Carleton Avenue," Gilleran said. "The victim appeared to be suffering from critical gunshot wound(s). Medics arrived and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

"A short time later, officers observed a 30-year-old Bridgeport man laying down in a driveway located on the south side of 30 Carleton Avenue. This victim also appeared to be suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Medics transported the 30-year-old victim to an area hospital where he later died."

The Detective Bureau Homicide Squad has taken charge of the investigation, and is being assisted by the Forensic Identification Unit.

"The Detective Bureau is currently in the process of interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and notifying next of kin. The preliminary investigation suggests this was a mutual assault between the two deceased parties and is an isolated incident. Two firearms were recovered at the scene."
