BRIDGEPORT, CT — All Bridgeport police officers are now wearing body cameras, under Connecticut law HB 6004: An Act Concerning Police Accountability, Mayor Joseph Ganim, city officials and the police deparment announced Friday.
Additionally, all police patrol vehicles are now required to have a dashboard camera in the vehicle to assist with the preservation of public order, protect life and property as well as prevent, detect, or investigate crime, officials said.
"I stand with supporters of this act and appreciate the State delegation that helped to make it happen," Ganim said in a statement. "Mandatory body cameras are an effective method towards safeguarding accountability. The recorded film can also be used in training to ensure our Police Department is always improving on its ability to equitably and fairly protect and serve."
