BRIDGEPORT, CT — Five residents from the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Bridgeport Hospital won first place at the American College of Physicians Doctor’s Dilemma® National Competition this week in San Francisco, earning the Osler Cup and bringing national recognition to Connecticut.
Doctor’s Dilemma®, a quiz-style medical knowledge competition often compared to Jeopardy!, features teams of internal medicine residents representing ACP state and international chapters. Up to 60 teams compete over three days during the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting, with one team emerging as the winner.
The Bridgeport Hospital team advanced to the national stage after winning a statewide competition in Connecticut and went on to defeat teams from across the United States and abroad at this year’s meeting in San Francisco.

"This achievement speaks volumes about the dedication, teamwork and intellectual rigor of our residents," said Kaltrina Sedaliu, MD, program director, Yale New Haven Health Bridgeport Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. "Winning at the national level requires far more than individual brilliance. It reflects discipline, preparation and mutual trust. We are incredibly proud of how our residents represented Bridgeport Hospital and the state of Connecticut on an international stage."
Sarpong Boateng, MD, a member of the winning team, said competing at the national level was both challenging and rewarding.
"Competing at this level alongside some of the brightest minds in medicine was both humbling and energizing," said Sarpong Boateng, MD, a Bridgeport Hospital internal medicine resident and member of the winning team. "Ultimately, what made the difference wasn’t just knowledge; it was preparation, trust and composure under pressure."
The competition tests participants across a broad range of internal medicine topics, emphasizing clinical reasoning and the ability to perform under pressure.
By securing the Osler Cup, the Bridgeport Hospital team joins past winners in ACP history, an outcome that highlights the program’s training efforts and the performance of its residents.
