Illegal Gambling Operation, Illegal Rooming House Found During Raids In Bridgeport: Police

BRIDGEPORT, CT — The Bridgeport Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Division, working with state and local agencies, conducted a joint compliance operation last week that found several violations, authorities said.

Among the unlawful activities discovered were an illegal gambling joint and an illegal rooming house, among others.

The sting operation on Friday included participation from the State Liquor Control Division, the Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office, the Bridgeport Health Department and the Bridgeport Building Department.

The inspections took place at the following locations:

• Berto’s Sports Bar & Grill, 709 Beechwood Ave.
• Mendez Wines and Liquor, 490 East Main St.
• Infinity Restaurant and Sports Bar, 845 East Main St.
• Deli Y Mas Chanell, 1193 East Main St.
• Juncos and Sons, 616 William St.
• Rey Azteca Lounge, 2288 Fairfield Ave.

Officials reported several violations as a result of the inspections.

Mendez Wines and Liquor was ordered closed after the Bridgeport Health Department determined the business lacked required permits.

At Deli Y Mas Chanell, investigators said they uncovered an illegal gambling operation. The owner, Frank Feito, 52, of Trumbull, was issued a misdemeanor summons on a charge of illegal gambling under state law. Authorities said gambling machines were seized as evidence, along with $3,424 in cash, which is subject to forfeiture proceedings.

At Juncos and Sons, officials said the Fire Marshal’s Office and Building Department found an unpermitted basement rooming house operating on the premises. The property owner was issued a violation notice. Four tenants were relocated due to safety concerns and code violations, authorities said.

"The Bridgeport Police Department, along with its state and local partners, remains committed to the safety of all its residents and visitors of the City of Bridgeport," said Lt. Johnathan A. Duharte in a statement. "We take illegal activities seriously and will continue to work diligently to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations within our community."
