1. Suspect In Bridgeport Assault Case Apprehended By U.S. Marshals: Police (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents are learning more about a serious May 6 assault on Bond Street, where a woman was found bleeding and seeking help after an alleged attack inside her apartment. Police say U.S. Marshals have now arrested 45-year-old Frank Moreno in the Bronx on a Bridgeport warrant, and he is expected to be extradited to face local charges connected to the case.
2. Bridgeport Man Killed In Scooter Crash, Police Say (patch.com) — Neighbors along Huntington Turnpike are grappling with news that a 61-year-old Bridgeport man died Saturday night after his motorized scooter collided with a Mercedes-Benz. Bridgeport police and firefighters responded, two others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the Accident Reconstruction Team is asking witnesses to come forward as the investigation continues.
3. CSDE outlines progress made in Bridgeport Schools (insideinvestigator.org) — State education officials say their intervention has helped Bridgeport Public Schools recover $12 million, cut chronic absenteeism, and ease a major staffing crunch after last year’s budget crisis. The update details new special education training, restored in-school suspension, and stricter expectations for the Bridgeport Board of Education as it prepares to search for a new superintendent.
4. ‘I was just thinking of those children on the bus': ICE stopped a Bridgeport student and his father on the way to school (ctpublic.org) — An immigrant father and his Bridgeport high-school-age son were stopped by federal immigration officers at a local school bus stop, alarming students and parents. Local officials and advocates say recent ICE activity around Bridgeport, including near City Hall and schools, is heightening fear and hurting school attendance among Latino and immigrant families.
5. At least 7 killed in weekend crashes on Connecticut roads, authorities say (ctpost.com) — A 61-year-old Bridgeport resident riding a motorized scooter was killed Saturday night in a crash with a car on Huntington Turnpike, and the driver and passenger in the car were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The fatal collision was one of several serious crashes statewide over the weekend that left at least seven people dead and others critically hurt on Connecticut roads.
