BRIDGEPORT, CT — An 18-year-old motorized scooter operator was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash with another vehicle in Bridgeport, according to police.
The scooter operator is being treated at St. Vincent's Medical Center, and he is listed in stable condition, Bridgeport police said. No other injuries were reported in the 4:15 p.m. collision.
According to police, the crash occurred at the intersection of North Avenue and Thompson Street, and Bridgeport firefighters were first to render aid to the victim. American Medical Response transported the victim to the hospital.
The operator of the Honda CR-V that collided with the scooter, a 33-year-old Stratford woman, remained at the scene, police said.
"The scene was reconstructed and after a preliminary investigation, it was determined the gray Honda CR-V was traveling north and Thompson Street and stopped at the stop sign located at Thompson Avenue and North Avenue," wrote Shawnna White, the city's Public Information Officer, in a statement. "The Honda CR-V attempted to turn left onto North Avenue, and it was struck by the motorized scooter traveling east on North Avenue."
Anyone with any additional information about the crash, is asked to contact Bridgeport Police Officer Tien Ngo at 203-576-7640 or tien.ngo@bridgeportct.gov.
