The pantry, run by Bridgeport Animal Control, "is sustained entirely through donations," according to officials.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Animal Control has temporarily closed its public pet food pantry, "due to an extremely low supply of pet food," officials announced.

When the pantry will reopen was not disclosed, but authorities put out an urgent appeal for donations on Wednesday.

"The pantry is sustained entirely through donations and animal control is asking the community to help replenish shelves so it can reopen as soon as possible," officials wrote on Facebook.

Most needed are supplies of dry dog food, dry cat food and wet cat food, according to officials.

"Donations of any brand or size are appreciated and even opened bags are accepted as long as the food remains in the original packaging," officials said.

The pantry, located at 236 Evergreen St. in Bridgeport, is accepting donations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

"If you’re unable to drop off a donation, you can also help by purchasing an item on the Bridgeport Animal Control Amazon Wishlist."
