Celebrate Jamaican Independence, Dominican Heritage In Bridgeport This Weekend

Admission for the two separate events is free.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Two popular cultural events are scheduled this weekend in Bridgeport.

Jamaica's 64th Day of Independence will be celebrated with an Emancipation Day Fish Fry on Saturday and Flag Raising Ceremony on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, Dominican Heritage will be celebrated with the Dominican Day Parade & Festival in Seaside Park.

Elected United Emancipation Day Fish Fry

Saturday, August 1

Kick off the celebration with a delicious Jamaican Fish Fry featuring authentic cuisine, music by DJ Alex, and an afternoon of community fellowship. Proceeds from the event will help support local students through sports and educational initiatives.

Join us as Bridgeport celebrates the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of the Dominican community at the 2026 Dominican Day Parade & Festival on Sunday, August 2 at Seaside Park! The celebration begins with the Dominican Day Parade at 11:00 AM, followed by the Festival beginning at 1:00 PM, featuring an afternoon of live music, cultural performances, delicious food, family-friendly activities, and community pride.

We are proud to announce that Bridgeport City Council President Jeanette Herron has been named the 2026 Madrina of the Dominican Day Parade & Festival. Following decades of dedicated service to the people of Bridgeport and years of distinguished elected leadership, Jeanette was recently chosen by her colleagues to serve as President of the Bridgeport City Council. Throughout her career, she has been a tireless advocate for working families, neighborhoods, and the city's diverse communities. In addition to her leadership at City Hall, she proudly serves as President of AFSCME Local 1522, where she has championed the rights and interests of employees with the same passion and integrity that define her public service. Her lifelong dedication to uplifting others and strengthening our community makes her an outstanding choice to serve as the 2026 Madrina, she embodies the pride, resilience, and unity that this celebration represents, and we are honored to recognize her outstanding contributions to the City of Bridgeport and her support of our vibrant Dominican community!
