BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport students and families can attend two free back-to-school events Saturday, Aug. 15, including a backpack giveaway and an education and literacy fair.
The city's annual Backpack Giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, 999 Broad St.
Free backpacks will be available to Bridgeport students while supplies last. Students must be present to receive a backpack, and proof of Bridgeport residency is required. There is a limit of one backpack per child.
The giveaway is supported by city departments, community organizations, businesses and sponsors.
The Bridgeport Public Library will also hold an Education & Literacy Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Burroughs-Saden Main Library, 925 Broad St.
The fair will include free books, games, prizes, activities and a food truck. The entrance will be marked by balloons on State Street.
The two events are being held within walking distance of each other on Broad Street.
