Patricia Sweedler, 81, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Richard Sweedler, passed away on August 12, 2026. Born on July 13, 1945 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of the late Elmore and Nina Gay.
The youngest of nine children, Patricia grew up in a big family and was always comfortable in the warmth, laughter and closeness that came with it. In December 1968 she married the love of her life, Richard, and they shared a devoted marriage until his passing in 2019.
Patricia dedicated much of her life to caring for children. She began her career in childcare at Catholic Family Services in Milford and later worked for the Department of Children and Families for 25 years. Her generous heart extended far beyond her professional responsibilities, as she opened her home and her heart to approximately 60 foster children over the years. Each child she cared for was welcomed with kindness, patience and love.
Above all else, Patricia treasured her family. She found her greatest joy in the time spent with those she loved and took pride in the family she and Richard built together. Her love and caring spirit will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
When she wasn't surrounded by family, Patricia could often be found enjoying the simple beauty of nature. She loved birds, gardening and taking peaceful walks along the beach. She also had a true appreciation for one of life's greatest comforts: pizza. A devoted pizza enthusiast, Patricia could always appreciate a good slice.
Patricia will be remembered for her enormous heart, her devotion to family, her compassion for children and the warmth she brought to everyone.
Patricia is survived by her children, Richard Sweedler, Jr., Tammy Guinto, Carrie Sweedler, Alysa Sweedler and Lisa Sweedler; her grandchildren, Jared Sweedler, Devin Sweedler, Madelyn Sweedler, and Zackery Sweedler; her brother, Peter (Pat) Gay; as well as many nieces and nephews. Patricia is predeceased by her seven beloved siblings.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. Interment will be private.
