BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Sunday afternoon in a pond at Beardsley Park.

Patrol officers, detectives, firefighters and medics responded to the scene.

An investigator with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner arrived a short time later, and the Bridgeport Fire Department removed the body from the pond.

"The man may have been in the water for a week, or more," wrote Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey Holtz in a statement. "He was clothed and was carrying several personal items."

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning at the medical examiner's office in Farmington.

Detectives are working with the medical examiner to identify the man and notify his family. Forensic testing may be needed to confirm his identity.

Detectives do not believe foul play was involved and are reviewing recent missing persons reports, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Stavros Mirtsopoulos at 203-581-5256.
