1. Bridgeport Police Identify Man Found Dead In Bunnell's Pond At Beardsley Park (patch.com) — Bridgeport residents are learning more about the man found dead in Bunnell's Pond at Beardsley Park, now identified as 38-year-old city resident Stephen Hall. Police say he had been missing since early August, and DNA testing was needed because he may have been in the water for about a week. The cause of death remains undetermined as the investigation continues.
2. 1 Injured In Shooting In Bridgeport: Police (patch.com) — Neighbors in Bridgeport's Birdseye Street area may notice a larger police presence after a late-night shooting left one person with a leg wound. The victim was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center, and investigators are relying on ShotSpotter alerts and other leads as they search for whoever is responsible.
3. Two Bridgeport housing projects approved near Park Avenue (shorelinetimes.com) — New housing is coming to Bridgeport's South End, with planners approving an eight-unit apartment building on Gregory Street and a larger mixed-use replacement for 378 Park Avenue. Near Seaside Park and the University of Bridgeport, the projects will add mostly market-rate apartments, updated storefronts, new sidewalks, and street trees along the busy Park Avenue corridor.
4. Bridgeport construction worker accused of stabbing coworker claims self-defense, police say (ctpost.com) — A construction worker was arrested after allegedly stabbing a coworker at a Bridgeport job site near Stratford Avenue and Bass Pro Drive, then being stopped on I-95 by a state trooper. Police say the suspect claimed self-defense, but the victim and witnesses described him as the aggressor; the victim, treated at Bridgeport Hospital for a torso wound, is expected to recover.
5. Ryan Fazio: All students should attend schools they choose (theday.com) — A Republican gubernatorial hopeful outlined his school-choice plan outside Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, praising Capital Prep as a model and calling for every student to attend the school they choose. Bridgeport Rep. Marcus Brown and other Democrats pushed back, warning expanded charters could drain resources from neighborhood schools even as both parties debate how to fix statewide funding gaps.
