BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport police are investigating multiple shootings from throughout weekend, one of which left a 34-year-old Bridgeport man critically injured, according to authorities.
That shooting, a drive-by, occurred at about 9 p.m. Saturday night outside a birthday party on Benham Avenue.
A ShotSpotter alert determined 20 gunshots were fired, at least one of which struck the victim in the back of one of his shoulders. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system deployed in parts of the city.
"Witnesses reported the victim was standing in crowd that included children outside of the birthday party, when a car drove by and the shots were fired," Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey Holtz wrote in a statement. "The car then fled at a high rate of speed. The children simultaneously ran into the house."
The police investigation, which is being led by the department's Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force, closed Benham Avenue for a while on Saturday, but it has since reopened.

In another shooting just after midnight on Sunday, a man suffered a back injury in a shooting outside a store on Harral Avenue; he is being treated at a local hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
At least 17 gunshots were detected by ShotSpotter, according to Holtz.
This shooting occurred across the street from the Greene Homes housing complex a few hours after the Benham Avenue shooting, but police do not believe the shootings are related.

After 22 gunshots were fired on Friday on Grandview Avenue, two juveniles were injured in a vehicle crash while fleeing the scene, according to Bridgeport police.
This shooting occurred at about 6:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Grandview Avenue, and the motor vehicle crash occurred in the area of Pembroke and Maple streets.
No other injuries were reported, and both juveniles were detained by police after the crash.
In another Friday night shooting, 21 gunshots were detected by ShotSpotter on Highland Avenue.
No injuries were reported in the 9:50 p.m. incident, and Bridgeport police are investigating.
