Emergency Crews Rescue Injured Construction Worker Trapped In Excavator In Bridgeport

The incident occurred Thursday at a job site on Atlantic Street in Bridgeport, according to authorities.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Emergency crews rescued an injured construction worker on Thursday morning at a job site on Atlantic Street in Bridgeport, after the worker became trapped in an excavator, according to authorities.

A large piece of equipment fell onto the excavator trapping the worker inside the cab.

The worker was extricated and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment for injuries to his lower extremities, according to Shawnna White, Bridgeport's public information officer. The worker's condition was not immediately known.

WFSB-TV reported that the worker was trapped for more than two hours before being extricated.

"Bridgeport fire, police, Fairfield fire, Milford fire, Norwalk fire, and New Haven fire all provided mutual aid," White told Patch. She added that the Yale New Haven Hospital Sponsor Hospital Area Response Physician Team ("Sharps Team") and Bridgeport Hospital personnel were also called to the scene.
