Today's riddle: Why do some birds fly south for the winter? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Bridgeport is the 'Park City,' so why do its parks lag behind other CT cities? (ctpost.com) — Bridgeport residents enjoy short walks to nearby parks, but a new report shows those parks are smaller and less funded than in many comparable cities, leaving fewer amenities and less green space in some neighborhoods. City officials and local advocates are using the findings to shape a new parks master plan, seek more investment, expand waterfront access, and design projects like a 20-mile waterfront pathway and new greenways.
2. New Haven Man Accused Of Stabbing In Bridgeport: Police (patch.com) — Bridgeport police say a New Haven man was arrested after a Bridgeport resident was seriously stabbed during a street fight on Iranistan Avenue, with officers applying a tourniquet before rushing the victim to Bridgeport Hospital for surgery. The suspect was later found near the city's train station, faces assault and booking-related charges, and is being held on $100,000 bail pending a Bridgeport court appearance.
3. Bridgeport Police Urge Traffic Safety After 3 Fatal Crashes (patch.com) — Bridgeport police are urging drivers to slow down and follow traffic laws after three recent fatal crashes in the city, including two deadly wrecks just 30 minutes apart overnight. The victims include a Fairfield man and two Bridgeport residents, and investigators are still examining the crashes as the department warns residents to be especially careful heading into the holiday season.
4. Bridgeport officials, Hartford HealthCare team up for e-bike safety initiative (wtnh.com) — Bridgeport officials and Hartford HealthCare launched a new e-bike safety push in the Park City, giving out high-quality helmets and education to local riders. City leaders say it's the first initiative of its kind in Bridgeport and hope it will reduce serious head injuries, especially among children, as e-bike use continues to grow on city streets.
5. Missing sculpture to Gustave Whitehead again soars over Bridgeport's West End (ctpost.com) — A long-missing sculpture honoring early aviation figure Gustave Whitehead is back up at the busy Fairfield Avenue and State Street Extension gateway in Bridgeport's West End, though its damaged fountain remains an eyesore. City officials and neighborhood leaders are pushing for broader beautification at this key entrance, balancing repair costs with the desire to showcase Bridgeport's "first in flight" pride and inspire local youth.
