Bank of America and Habitat for Humanity Partner to Build Homes Alongside Connecticut Families during Fourth Global Build

Projects are part of Bank of America's broader commitment to advancing community development in Connecticut.

During the first week of October, 80 Bank of America employee volunteers joined with five Habitat for Humanity chapters across Connecticut to build homes and provide crucial repairs for nine local families. In addition to the volunteers’ time, Bank of America has also provided $60,000 in funding to the affiliates.

The week of home builds is part of the fourth Habitat Global Build, now a trademark program of the bank’s more than 30-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Between September 30 and October 7, more than 2,500 Bank of America employee volunteers, Habitat for Humanity colleagues, and families are working together around the country on builds and revitalization projects to help those in need achieve the dream of homeownership.

“When people have a place to call home, our community as a whole can thrive, which is why we’ve had a longstanding partnership a number Habitat chapters in Connecticut,” said Bill Tommins, Southern Connecticut market president, Bank of America. “Our Global Build and partnerships with Habitat are part of our broader work to help put individuals and families on a path toward economic mobility.”

In Connecticut, the Habitat for Humanity chapters participating in the Global Build are Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Waterbury.

High school sweethearts Justo Boglio and Jessica Diaz of Bridgeport are one of the nine families who will receive a home with their two children, Angelice (9) and Jadrian (4). The family has worked over 250 “Sweat Equity” hours on their home and will become first-time homeowners once complete.

“Through our partnership with Bank of America, we are working to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing in Connecticut,” said Stuart Adelberg, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County. “The Global Build provides a focal point for underlining this critical need in communities and together, we are transforming lives.”

The Global Build is just one way that Bank of America is helping advance a thriving Connecticut community as part of its work in connecting community members to solutions around affordable housing and homelessness. In 2017 alone, Bank of America has invested over $306,400 in Connecticut nonprofits that support housing initiatives, ranging from providing financial education for new homeowners to shelter for those in critical need. Additionally, over the past ten years, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has administered over $2 million in funding towards Connecticut nonprofits that support community development and address homelessness in the state through the bank’s Neighborhood Builders program, which recognizes two outstanding nonprofits in Connecticut each year.
