Bridgeport Casino Would Not Jeopardize Funding Deals: Report

Both the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes send hundreds of millions of dollars from slot machine revenue to the state.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A recent opinion issued by state Attorney General George Jepsen paves the way for potential bids from builders of a casino in Bridgeport or other parts of the state, reports the Connecticut Post.

According to Jepsen, a bill in the state legislature allowing bids would not alter the current revenue agreements with the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes. Both groups send hundreds of millions of dollars from slot machine revenue to the state.

Under the proposed bill, an East Windsor casino - planned by two Native American tribes - would be scrapped. But the state would look to add another casino somewhere else, such as Bridgeport.

The state legislature still has to approve the proposed bill, which was scheduled to be discussed in committee on March 15.
