Bridgeport Christopher Columbus Statue Vandalized

The statue is one of several across the state that was vandalized recently.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Several Christopher Columbus statues were vandalized across the state. Statues in Norwalk, Middletown, Bridgeport and New Haven were affected.

The statue at Seaside Park in Bridgeport was splashed with red paint and the words "Kill The Colonizer" were painted in white below the statue, according to the Connecticut Post.

A statue in Norwalk was stenciled with "FAKE NEWS" on the base. Statues in Middletown and New Haven were painted red, but they have since been cleaned up.

The vandalism comes at a time where the Columbus legacy is being debated. Some communities have instead changed the day to Indigenous People's Day.
