STRATFORD, CT — A Bridgeport contractor who is accused of stealing a car from a client recently surrendered to Stratford police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Sonny Mitchell was hired to replace a driveway for the victim in exchange for a Chevrolet Corvette as partial payment, according to Capt. Frank Eannotti. But when Mitchell took the car for a test drive, he never returned with the vehicle or to finish the work, Eannotti stated in an email.

The investigation that led to charges against Mitchell began in March, according to Eannotti, the same time the agreement was reached involving the Corvette. Mitchell, 47, was arrested June 17 and is charged with larceny, violation of home improvement contract requirements, failure to refund a job less than $10,000, illegal sales without a sales tax permit, violation of state building code and notices in sales agreement.
