Bridgeport To Help With Snow Removal In Providence, Rhode Island: Mayor

"I also want to note that while we may be assisting Providence, Bridgeport residents are our first priority."

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim said Tuesday that the city will lend snow removal aid to Providence, Rhode Island, after Mayor Brett Smiley reached out to several out-of-state communities for assistance.

This week's major winter storm dumped several feet of snow on Providence, which overwhelmed the city, according to Ganim.

"Earlier [Tuesday], Mayor Brett Smiley of Providence notified me and many other mayors in Connecticut about the incredible amount of snow they received," Ganim wrote in a statement. "After hearing that Providence received 39-48” of snow, the City of Bridgeport has decided we will do our best to offer whatever assistance we can to Providence. Bridgeport will assist with locating snow removal equipment and will also help locate hirable contractors to remove snow."

Ganim was quick to add that Bridgeport residents would remain the city’s top priority and that local crews would continue efforts to keep roadways safe and clear.

"I also want to note that while we may be assisting Providence, Bridgeport residents are our first priority," Ganim said. "We will continue to do all we can to ensure our roadways are clear and our residents are safe."
