Bridgeport Man Arrested After Not Returning Rental Car: PD

Westport police said the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Rhode Island.

WESTPORT, CT — Westport police said a Bridgeport man was arrested Sunday morning after he allegedly did not return an overdue vehicle to a Rhode Island rental car branch.

According to a news release, an officer observed the vehicle traveling on Post Road East at approximately 10 a.m. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen out of North Providence, R.I.

Police said the vehicle was stopped and the driver was identified as Adam Sipes, 34, of Bridgeport. Officers subsequently learned the vehicle was an overdue rental, which was scheduled to be returned by July 19, police said.

"Sipes had not returned the vehicle, nor had he made additional payments to extend the rental agreement," police said in a release. "The rental company then reported the vehicle as stolen to the North Providence Police Department."

Police said the accused was taken into custody and transported to headquarters, where he was charged with motor vehicle theft.
