Bridgeport Man Arrested After Pursuit In Fairfield, Found With Heroin: Police

The suspect, who was found hiding in a yard by K-9 Maverick, was operating a vehicle with a stolen license plate and heroin was found inside

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man was arrested after police say he fled from a moving vehicle during a pursuit and the vehicle continued to drive across two lawns and caused damage. Several packages of heroin were located in the car and the suspect was found hiding in a yard by K-9 Maverick.

The incident began at about 4:35 p.m. on Sept. 3 when officers, who were conducting Motor Vehicle Enforcement at Exit 19 in Southport, attempted to stop a Dodge Neon with a stolen license plate, according to Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Kalamaras said the vehicle fled a short distance (.3 miles) and the sole occupant/operator fled from the moving vehicle that continued to drive across two lawns and caused damage before it came to rest at a shrub/mailbox on Osborne Lane.

“K-9 Officer Kaesmann and Maverick tracked the suspect through several yards and subsequently located the subject hiding in a side yard on Daves Lane,” Kalamaras wrote in a press release. “The suspect was apprehended by K-9 Maverick and suffered minor puncture wounds to his buttocks and hand. Suspect was taken into custody and transported by AMR to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated and released. In the suspect vehicle, officers located several packages of heroin, tools, jewelry, ski masks, latex gloves, a gun-cleaning kit and a locked black sentry safe in the trunk of the vehicle.”

Andre Genest, 28, of Maple Street in Bridgeport, was arrested on charges of interfering /resisting arrest, possession of narcotics, second-degree reckless endangerment, engaging police in pursuit, theft of plates, reckless driving, evading responsibility and no insurance.

He was held on a $5,100 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 11.
