Bridgeport Man Arrested On Robbery And Weapons Charges: Police

Authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect's home and found an illegal firearm and other evidence, police said.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — An 18-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on robbery and illegal weapons charges Tuesday after a search of the suspect's Hancock Avenue home, according to Bridgeport police.

Jayden Freeman was charged with the following:

  • First-degree robbery
  • Second-degree larceny
  • Theft of a firearm
  • Criminal use of a firearm
  • Possession of large capacity magazine
  • Illegal sale/transfer/delivery of a firearm
  • Risk of injury to a minor

According to Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran, a recent rise in robberies on the city's Westside in the Maplewood Avenue neighborhood, led members of the department's Robbery Squad to launch a criminal investigation.

"As a result of the investigation, the case officer (Detective Albert Palatiello) obtained a search warrant and arrest warrant for an occupant and residence located within the 800 block of Hancock Avenue," Gilleran wrote in a statement, which led to Freeman's arrest on Tuesday.

Inside Freeman's bedroom, police found a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun equipped with a 30-round high-capacity magazine and other evidence, according to Gilleran.

Freeman is being held in lieu of bail of $270,000, and was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.

"I would like to thank the Robbery Squad for their professional investigation, along with Emergency Services Unit Operators and Task Force Officers, who skillfully executed the search warrant and took Suspect Freeman into custody without incident," Gilleran said.
